While a great snack for us and our kids, grapes and raisins are highly toxic food for a dog.
How toxic are they ? Ingestion of just one (1) or two (2) grapes is cause for concern and a call to the vet or poison control line should be made explaining your pet has ingested grapes or raisins.
Where else can we find grapes and raisins ?
In our yard. Grape vines can be found in our yards. Should you have pets and grape vines its highly recommended that they be fenced off to help prevent your pets from ingesting them.
Foods – sometimes we forget that grapes and raisins are found in cookies, bagels and other baking , trail mix, granola bars etc.
Its important to beware of small kids sharing their snacks with the pets. Or sometimes our pets tend to help themselves to the kid’s snacks. So if your small kids are eating grapes or raisins its a good idea to keep a sharp eye out for sharing and pets helping themselves.
Ingestion of grapes and raisins causes kidney failure in pets.
What Are Some Signs of Kidney Problems in Dogs?
- Change in water consumption
- Change in volume of urine produced
- Depression and listlessness
- Loss or decreased appetite
- Chemical odor of breath
- Vomiting
- Weight loss
- Blood in urine
- Mouth ulcers
- Pale gums
- Stumbling, acting drunk
Should your pet shows any of the above signs you should contact your vet right away and discuss the situation with them.
