Meats

Over the holidays you may be inclined to share some of your Christmas leftovers with your pets.  Some foods tend to contain a large amount of fat, meats like turkey, ham, turkey skin, brisket and are very hard for a pet to digest. These types of foods can cause the pancreas to kick into high gear and could cause pancreatitis, which can cause severe illness or death.

Garbage

Also very harmful to pets are things like the turkey carcass or aluminum foil with tasty juices and food. The carcass contains bones and cartilage when this is digested can lead to severe gastroenteritis and pancreatitis. Digesting foils and plastics and knives/forks will require costly surgery to remove.

Plants

Holiday plants can be very toxic to for our pets. Mistletoe, hydrangeas and baby breaths to name a few

Masks

Keep in mind while gathering with friends and family, the wearing of masks can cause anxiety for pets. The masks prevent the dogs from recognizing people. Some signs to watch out for are barking, hissing, aggression even vomiting and diarrhea. If you feel this is a concern or see your pets displaying these behaviours you might want to keep your pet in a quite place such as a bedroom.

Happy Holidays from our furkids to yours.
