The salts that are used on the streets and sidewalks in the winter can be a big threat to your dog’s paws.

If you are not able to avoid the salts here are some ways you can protect your dog’s paws.

Dog Booties

Although they may look a bit funny, they are the best protection for your dog.

Boots will protect your dog’s paws from salt, ice balls, cutting the pads on sharp ice.

Proper sizing of dog boots is very important for comfort and protection.

At first your dog will not like having the boots on. With a little time and patience, you can train your dog to love wearing their boots. I would suggest putting the boots on your dog in the house and let them get use to having them on.

Musher’s Secret

Musher’s secret is a popular paw wax.

The paw wax is applied to the pads of the feet before a walk. The wax forms a protective barrier between the paw and the salty surface.

Paw wax will wear away after extended exercise and should be reapplied before each walk.
